It’s nearly time to retire winter coats, beautiful blossoms blanket the gorgeous Parisian streets, and it’s finally time to dust off the picnic baskets.

Tips for Visiting Paris in Spring
- Wear comfortable shoes: Visiting Paris in the spring means you’ll be outside exploring majority of your trip. The weather is too good to pass up on! Knowing you’ll be putting miles on your shoes, make sure to pack a pair that are comfortable and reliable. This is NOT the time to break in new shoes.
- Book your tickets in advance: Like you, many other people want to see Paris in the spring. The weather starts warming up and folks come out of the woodwork. Book any tickets for major attractions (Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Etc.) well in advance.
- Wear sunscreen: You know I’m a stickler for sunscreen! Here’s the only sunscreen I recommend. I’ve been using it exclusively for the past 8+ years and can’t recommend it enough.
- Important dates to remember: You should be aware of holidays that happen when visiting Paris in the spring. During the early spring months in Paris, streets tend to be quieter. Typically around mid-April when Easter kicks off the celebrations, Paris gets crowded.
Here are some major holidays to prepare yourself for when visiting Paris in spring:- Easter Monday: April 10th, 2023 (Since Easter is on a Sunday, it is observed the following Monday.)
- Labor Day: May 1st, 2023 (Expect everything to be shut down. Museums, shops, etc.)
- Victory Day 1945: May 8th, 2023 (Commemorating the victory of the Allies over Germany.)
- Ascension Day: May 18th, 2023 (Marks the day that Jesus ascended to heaven following his crucifixion and resurrection, according to Christian belief.)
- Whit Monday: May 29th, 2023 (Catholics celebrate this holiday as the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.)

The changing season brings the promise of prolific spring blooms, and who can resist those when visiting Paris in the spring? Not this gal. If you’re planning the best things to do in Paris during the spring time you’re in luck because the weather is great for wandering.
March will still be relatively chilly so don’t pack away that coat just yet. But come April and May, the weather begins to take a turn and warmer days are on the horizon.
Now luckily the spring weather in Paris isn’t hot enough where you’ll break a sweat. With that said it is warm enough where you’re able to explore comfortably for long periods at a time. But one thing to take into account is the occasional rainy day in Paris, so pack an umbrella!
April is typically when you see outdoor dining start filling up and by May rooftop bars and picnics are in full swing.
Not to mention, the comfortable climate in the later months opens the door to a plethora of wardrobe options. You won’t be too limited by the weather while visiting Paris in the spring, so pack your best outfits.

#15. Check out the spring blooms
Visiting Paris in the spring is a joy, thanks in large part to the copious amount of blooms sprinkled around the city. It seems every other cafe or bistro is adorned with a vibrant display of pinks, yellows, reds and purples inviting you in for a drink.
One of my favorite things to do in Paris in spring is to head out in search of the best spring blooms. I usually don’t have a plan or route, I simply meander the streets and delight in the added pops of colors.
As a photographer the blooms make it impossible to leave my camera at home, and I know I’m not the only one. If I had a dollar for every person I saw stop and snap a photo of a cafe I’d dethrone the richest man in the world.
With all of that said I know somebody reading this is thinking, “just tell me where to find the blooms, dammit!” and so I will. Below I’ll list a few places you’ll find brimming with flowers and greenery in Paris in spring.
- Jardin de la Tour Eiffel: One of the best places to find early blooms in Paris in spring is at the Garden of the Eiffel Tower, when the magnolias bloom in early March.
- Grand Mosque de Paris: Entrance to Paris’ Grand Mosque’s garden will cost €3 at the door but is well worth it when the wisterias bloom around mid-April.
- Square René Viviani: Home to the oldest tree in Paris, the square comes alive during the middle of spring in Paris when the cherry trees are in full bloom.
#14. Take advantage of free entry during European Night Of Museums
Date: May 13th, 2023
My mom used to say, “even an ass-kicking is good when it’s free” and although I don’t necessarily agree, I understand the sentiment. Getting something for free removes the pressure of getting your money’s worth and often helps you enjoy yourself more.
That’s why one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to take advantage of European Night of Museums. It’s a day where more than 3,000 museums across almost 30 countries prop their doors open to the public in an effort to help more people enjoy the beloved institutions of learning.
France alone opens the door to more than 1,300 museums, and not just random hole-in-the-walls with cobwebs in the corners. The Louvre hosted 16,000 visitors in 2019 and you can help beat that number this year.
And did I make clear that this is the European NIGHT of Museums? As in the museums will be open late?

#13. Explore Foire de Paris
Dates: April 27th – May 8th, 2023
If you have even the slightest interest in shopping one of the best things to do in Paris in the spring is to swing by the biggest general-purpose fair in all of Europe.
The Foire de Paris, a sizable annual shopping fair, has taken place in Paris in spring every year since 1904. The popular market, which mostly specializes in home goods, provides the general public with access to a wide variety of goods.
With over a thousand stands and stalls to visit, you can easily lose track of time and spend an entire day (or two, no judgement) perusing the goods. Expect to find new foods to try, items for any occasion and fun entertainment all under one roof.
For almost 100 years the exposition has been held in the Porte de Versailles exhibition hall and it’s only open for a few days. So if you plan on visiting Paris in the spring and you’re looking for a fun activity to do, I suggest purchasing your tickets early to secure a spot.

#12. Visit as many gardens as you can
One of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to take your time smelling the roses, visiting the city’s gardens. And no – these aren’t your grandmother’s gardens. In Paris you’ll find sprawling green spaces methodically designed for royalty and full of vibrant blooms.
For starters, take the Luxembourg Garden which is bustling with life in the form of both humans and plants. There are more than 50 acres you can stroll, delighting in the tennis courts, fountains and tree lined promenades. Better yet, relax in a chair in front of the Luxembourg Palace where the French Senate meets.
Or maybe instead you’d prefer to spend your spring in Paris hanging around the Tuileries Garden. The garden is a place where locals gather and it’s hard to not feel like an extra in a French film hanging out among the crowd.
And if you want to make a full day of it, one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to make the trip to Versailles. Less than an hour train ride from Paris you can take your time enjoying the nearly 200 acres of the Gardens of Versailles (I’ll touch on this more further down). It’s easy to get lost, both literally and figuratively while gawking at the greenery.
Not to mention all the smaller community gardens that are more than welcoming in Paris in the spring. All this to say, the gardens in the French capital provide one of the best ways to get outside and enjoy some fresh air!
#11. Watch the French Open tennis championship
Dates: May 28th – June 11th, 2023
Part of the Tennis Grand Slam, the French Open is a riveting display of athleticism even a casual sports fan can enjoy. The tournament is held over the course of two weeks and one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to swing by for a match or two.
Since the French Open is played on a clay court instead of a grass or hard courts it’s more physically demanding on the athletes. In fact, some commentators consider the French Open the most physically taxing tennis tournament in the world, which makes for some intense competition.
And since the Stade Roland Garros (the stadium where the tournament is held) is easily accessible via public transit it’s easy to make the stop if you’re visiting Paris in the spring. Just make sure to book your tickets ahead of time online.
You’ll have the choice of either a single day or multiple day tickets, and the website makes it easy to know which days are the opening rounds and the finals.
If you really want to make an unforgettable memory of Paris in the spring, try attending the championship. When you consider there’s more than €40 million in prize money being awarded you’ll understand why the athletes compete with such intensity.

#10. Split a bottle of wine on the Galeries Lafayette rooftop terrace
One of the best views of the Paris comes one the rooftop terrace of Galeries Lafayette, a luxury department store catered to those with no self-control over their spending (aka, me).
The store itself is stunning and does a great job creating an atmosphere of class and grandeur. There are golden accents, tiled floors and a dome that could just as well be found in a Renaissance-era church.
I’ve learned (for my wallet’s sake) to make a beeline for the elevator and head straight up to the rooftop terrace. Soaking in the 360° views of the city is one of the best things to do in Paris in spring.
If you find yourself working up an appetite you’ll be better served at the rooftop bar. During the springtime a restaurant called Créatures opens its doors to the public and offers drinks and an entirely vegetarian menu. Full of delicious small bites and providing epic views of the city, few can resist partaking in the fun atmosphere when visiting Paris in spring.

#9. Cruise the Seine River
Most folks know that walking along the River Seine is one of the most romantic things to do in Paris in the spring, but taking a cruise tour takes it up a notch.
You’ll be rewarded with warm weather and a meal, not to mention you get to see Paris without killing your feet walking everywhere. If you’re looking to impress someone without breaking a sweat, cruising the Seine is one of the best things to do in Paris in spring.
I suggest booking tickets with Seine River Cruises, since they offer a plethora of options. You can book a one-hour boat tour, a dinner cruise or even a night cruise.
Taking a cruise down the Seine is one of the most memorable things to do in Paris in the spring and it doesn’t have to break the bank. Some tours start as low as €15!
#8. Unleash your inner child at Foire du Trône
Dates: March 31st – May 29th, 2023 | Hours of Operations
If Disney Paris is out of the picture but you still want to experience the thrill of an amusement park, might I suggest Foire du Trône. After a small hiatus (thanks, covid) the French fair is back and better than ever.
With over 300 attractions and 80 rides it’s no wonder why Foire du Trône has made our list of best things to do in Paris in spring. This is a great spring activity for the family and will keep you busy for an entire day.
Foire du Trône is an opportunity for you to let your hair down and unleash your inner child. The best part? You can get there by metro. The 8 line gets you there, you just hop off at the Créteil – Pointe du Lac stop.
The loud, vibrant park will have you reminiscing in no time and the nostalgia hits hard since this fair offers all the classics. Take a spin on the Ferris wheel, throw your hands up on the roller-coaster and feel your stomach drop aboard all the twisting rides.
This is a great spring activity in Paris for all my fellow thrill-seekers or those who just love a good amusement park ride. The fair runs from March 31st to May 29th this year, so add it to your calendars.

#7. Cheer on the Paris Marathon
Dates: Every April
Running a marathon is no easy feat. The amount of hard work and dedication that goes into running 26.2 miles deserves a (roaring) crowd. That’s why one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to cheer on the runners during the Paris Marathon.
Held annually by the city, the Paris Marathon is the marathon with the second most finishers in the world. Even if you have no interest in running, trust me the thunderous crowds are enough entertainment to warrant a visit.
And if you are brave enough, one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to run the marathon. And unlike other major marathons in the world you don’t need to qualify to run in Paris, just a doctor’s note saying you’re good to go. Registration for the 2024 race is officially open,
#6. Check out flea markets
France’s flea markets are known the world over and visiting a few of them is one of the best things to do in Paris in spring. When the weather starts clearing up you won’t struggle finding street markets popping up what feels like every other block.
But if you need a recommendation the Paris Flea Market (Les Puces de Saint-Ouen) is one of the biggest in Paris. There are stalls and shops filled with intricate trinkets, great art, leather goods, clothing and dishes. This could be a great time to pick up souvenirs, so be sure to bring small bills if you’re gutsy enough to haggle.
If I’m being honest, some of the prices can be a bit of shock (it’s a popular tourist destination). However, simply perusing the area is still fun. So if you’re into antiques, add this to your list of best things to do in Paris in spring.

#5. Climb the dome of the Panthéon
Dates: April – October
The Pantheon has served a variety of purposes during its 200+ year history before finally being decreed a mausoleum for notable French citizens. Furthermore, the building itself is one of the most beautiful you’ll find in the French capital.
You should make the time to visit regardless of the season, but one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to head up into the Pantheon’s dome for a stunning panoramic view of the city.
The climb is made up of 206 steps but the trek is well worth it. Paris unveils itself at your feet like a map and you can really appreciate the capital’s grandeur. Not to mention during the spring in Paris everyone is eager to delight in the sun and the fresh air, so you can look down on a high-spirited city full of locals scurrying around.
You’ll should book tickets to the Pantheon ahead of time, and when you do be sure to choose the bundle option that includes the panorama. It’ll cost you €15 but the price is well worth it!

#4. Take advantage of outdoor seating in restaurants and cafes
With spring arriving in Paris folks can’t help but flock to any restaurant offering a scenic outdoor seating area. Be it floral blossoms adorning the doors or charming awnings facing the Seine — odds are the space will fill up.
That’s why one of the best things to do in Paris in spring is to take advantage of the outdoor seating (especially on warm days). You’ll experience the city in a whole new light and the best part is, there’s no rush.
You won’t struggle finding an iconic Parisian cafe to park yourself at. The options are endless with the Eiffel Tower, charming Paris streets or the river as your choices.
In fact one of my favorite memories from the last time I visited Paris in the spring was when the weather turned gray and my parents and I had to take cover. Running to the nearest spot we could find, we waited for the storm to pass under a covered outdoor seating area, sipping on hot chocolate while staring at the Eiffel Tower!
It was just as dreamy as it sounds and it’ll forever be one of my favorite things to do in Paris in the spring.

#3. Celebrate Easter in Paris
One of the best things to do in Paris in the spring with kids is to let them partake in one of the many Easter egg hunts across the city. The entertainment is safe and clean and if you’re lucky your littles will tire themselves out so much they have to take a nap.
There are plenty of non-church sponsored Easter egg hunts taking place across Paris in spring in case you’re not a member of a local parish. Most of the events are free and there really isn’t an excuse not to treat your kids to such a memorable experience.
Not to mention you’ll have prime photo-taking opportunities since most of the hunts are outdoors. Just be sure to snap your pictures before the kids smear their faces with chocolate!
Here are some Easter egg hunts taking place this spring in Paris:
- Musee Rodin: The famous museum is bringing back their popular Easter egg hunt for its second year. Held in its sizeable Sculpture Garden kids will get to search for eggs they can exchange for À la Mère de Famille’s iconic chocolates. Registration is needed.
- Andre Citroen Park: Paris’ most famous Easter egg hunt, more than 200 volunteers hide around 40,000 eggs across the park’s 30 acres!
- Le Bon Marche: Both of Le Bon Marche’s department stores will host Easter egg hunts this spring in Paris. This is a win-win because the kids have their fun and you have yours (just keep an eye on them). 😉
#2. Wander the Versailles Palace garden
The million dollar question — should you devote a precious day visiting Paris in spring to the Palace of Versailles. The answer? Of course.
Located a mere 30 minute train ride from downtown, this used to be the official royal residence of the top dogs until the French Revolution in 1789. Today the palace is open to the public — and damn — it’s a joy to explore. Seeing the Hall of Mirrors (unreal) and Marie Antoinette’s gardens are non-negotiable things to do when visiting Paris in spring!
Helpful Note: If you’re going to add the Palace of Versailles to your Paris itinerary (as you should!), make sure to book tickets well in advance. This is especially true if you plan on visiting Paris in the spring or summer. Otherwise you’ll be stuck in the infamous long lines. Here’s the official website to book your tickets.

#1. Picnic under the Eiffel Tower
There is nothing more iconic in Paris than the Eiffel Tower, so let’s jump in. Built as a centerpiece for the 1889 World’s Fair, it was intended to be a temporary exhibit but quickly became an icon synonymous with the most romantic city in the world.
And it’s no wonder. Seeing this beauty aglow during sunset is one of the most romantic things to do in Paris in the spring. Especially at dusk, when the tower starts to shimmer in a dazzling display of lights.
One of the best ways to enjoy the Eiffel Tower at sunset is to trapeze around town in search of local treats (bakeries, cheese shops!) before parking yourself on the large lawn. From there, spend the entire afternoon talking about nothing and maybe pinching yourself.
But as you know, you and half of Paris will be partaking in this popular spring activity in Paris. If you’re keen on escaping the crowds, head to the Eiffel Tower at sunrise for some semblance of solitude. It’s just as magical, regardless of the time of day.
Note: Some readers have asked if ascending to the top of the Eiffel Tower is worthwhile while visiting Paris in the spring. Speaking personally, this is an easy no for me. It’s expensive, crowded and while you’ll get a great view of the city, you’ll be missing one crucial element — a view of the Eiffel Tower. This is an easy pass for me.

What to pack for spring in Paris:
Light jacket + long coat
The weather in Paris during the spring can be unpredictable at times. My advice is traveling with a light jacket that can be easily tied around the waist. This way on the chilly mornings or breezy evenings you’re able to cover up. It would also be a good idea to bring one long coat (wool or down material) for the days the wind picks up.
At least one dress or skirt
If you plan on visiting Paris towards the end of spring, chances are high you’ll be getting multiple sunny days. Days where your wardrobe won’t be limited by possible rain or wind. Paris is a fashionable city and dressing up is part of the moment. I suggest packing a stylish dress or skirt for photos, museums and the occasional fancy dinner.
Layering pieces
Along with a few staple pieces, my biggest piece of advice is packing layering pieces. My typical go-to (that has saved me more times than I can count) is two basic long sleeve shirts, one pair of leggings and one thin turtle neck. The shirts add an extra layer of warmth of the cold days and leggings under jeans never fails me on a windy day!
Scarf
Much like the light jacket, a light scarf can save you from misery. The best part? Scarves can be used in multiple ways and styled to fit almost any outfit. When paired with a dress it can be used as a shawl and when paired with jeans and a coat — well the possibilities are endless. Carrying a scarf with you while visiting Paris in the spring is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Jeans
Parisians are known to be stylish people. The typical uniform out here is black clothing and a solid pair of jeans. You’ll see folks rocking beret’s during the springtime in Paris but odds are… they’re probably tourists. 😉 If you want to blend in and look like a local stick to basic, quality pieces and avoid flashy, loud prints.
Umbrella
Paris in Spring can have unpredictable rainfall. Instead of taking up luggage space with a raincoat, opt for an umbrella instead. They are easy to carry and you’ll be more willing to step outside knowing you came prepared!
