The French capital extends a warm embrace to your little ones with museums, parks and enough sweet-treats to keep them pumped even after all the walking. With proper planning, visiting Paris with kids can be more fun than a weekend of going to the disco with your friends.
Switch out the bottles of wine for hot coco and put on your most comfortable pair of walking shoes because the city is ripe for exploring. Visiting Paris as a family will provide the memories of a lifetime!
I know because I’ve done it! Not only did I visit Paris with my nieces and nephews – grandma and grandpa came too. We really put the label “family-friendly” through its paces.

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be royalty? Well, relaxing at the Luxembourg Gardens is a great start. Only one minor caveat though, if you’re visiting Paris with kids you won’t have a butler or nanny to watch your them – that’s all on you, baby.
The Luxembourg Gardens was commissioned by Marie de’ Medici after her sweet thang, King Henry IV, died and left her a (very rich) widow.
Eager to shake things up, she decided that the Louvre was no longer desirable and commissioned an architect to build a new palace in imitation of the place she was born — Pitti Palace in Florence.
Likewise, the garden was designed in a style native to Florence and spared no expense in the effort. Today you’ll see chipper tourist with cameras in hand rubbing elbows with locals catching up with friends, and retirees napping.
Visiting the gardens is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids. There is ample space for them to run around, but unlike parks in the states there isn’t a playground.
Instead one of the best Paris activities with kids is sailing miniature sailboats in the Grand Bassin (a man-made pond at the center of the garden). You can bring your own boat (good luck fitting it into your carry on) or rent one from a stall that’s parked in front of the pond during the spring and summer.

Rest your legs at the Trocadero Gardens & Steps
The Eiffel Tower is a world-famous monument and when visiting Paris with kids it’s a non-negotiable pit-stop. Kids will be inspired at the sheer size of the Iron Lady, and likely it’ll imprint the memory of a lifetime.
On one side of the Eiffel Tower, there is a large green space, Champs de Mars (which we’ll get to next). But on the other side is Trocadero Gardens, a lively public square with fountains spewing water 40 feet in the air.
The space is often crowded with eager artists, vendors, and weary individuals resting their feet. This is one of the best places to visit in Paris with kids, especially if you’re hoping to get photos of them.
Plop them down on a concrete bench with an ice cream and gawk at the Eiffel Tower in the background. When the sun is out, the Trocadero Gardens is swells with locals and tourists alike so keep an eye on your kids.

The Trocadero Gardens & Steps is a beautiful place to gawk at the Eiffel Tower, but nothing beats the classic Champs de Mars. It’s a sprawling lawn that’s perfect for a picnic, especially if you’re visiting Paris with kids.
They’ll have ample room to run around and burn off any extra-energy before heading home. There’s also an abundance of crepe stands around in case you and your family are craving something sweet.
If you’re able to plan ahead, having a picnic at the Champs de Mars is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids. Stop by a local store for a fresh baguette, meat and cheese and make a bee-line for the green space.
There’s even public bathrooms (but the lines are notoriously long) in case your little had too much juice. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more welcoming place if you’re visiting Paris with kids.

Run around Jardin des Tuileries
Sandwiched between The Louvre and the Place de Concorde is the Jardin des Tuileries (or Tuileries Garden). Built as the private garden of the Tuileries Palace (aka the home of France’s monarchs) you already know every square foot of the garden was designed with a purpose.
After the French Revolution the gardens became a public space and turns out it’s one of the best places for families to explore if you’re visiting Paris with kids. Between the vibrant life and ample open space to run (parents this is a great way to tire out your little!) it’s a no-brainer bringing the whole family here.
What’s more, there are vendors who set up shop and street performers who offer entertainment that fill the space making the time melt away. Indeed, your kids will find entertainment in the form of a jungle gym, slides and even a carousel!
You’ll also find statues, fountains and food stands all across the garden, gracing your eyes with something pretty no matter where you look. Explore the charming Parisian streets
One of the best things to do with kids in Paris (that won’t cost you a penny) is simply stepping outside and exploring. The streets of Paris offer history, charm and are just down-right cute.
This may be a little obvious but I’ve learned that sometimes you have to make a conscious effort to explore. Going from point A to point B is okay, but when you allow yourself to get lost in a city it’s a whole new world.
Even a thirty minute walk is fun. Hundreds of boutiques, colorful carousels and public parks are sprinkled throughout the city providing an impressive level of entertainment when visiting Paris as a family.
If you’re traveling during the warmer months and you’re looking for things to do with kids in Paris, walking along the Seine River is an easy activity that seems to do the trick.
Kids have the opportunity to walk along a clear path with no worries of cars. Watching the occasional boat go by or a group of bikers, all while being surrounded by Paris’ beautiful architecture is surreal.

Take a tour of Montmartre by train

Since we’re already in the neighborhood (thanks to the Montmartre train ride), we might as well take advantage of the surrounding entertainment. The Montmartre carousel sits at the base of the Basilica de Sacre Couer and is a non-negotiable when visiting Paris with kids.
And let me tell you something — not only is the carousel constantly packed with wide-eyed, eager kiddos, it’s seriously in the most idyllic of locations.
Dating back to the 18th century, it’s one of the oldest carousels in all of Paris. When visiting Paris with kids they’ll get entertainment and you’ll enjoy a little bit of history.
Even if you have no intentions of riding it, simply having the chance to inspect the finer details of the carvings up close makes the trip worthwhile. But if you’re traveling with littles (and desperate for a break), paying for a quick ride is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids.

You’ll find different styles with different levels of details. So walk around until you find someones work you like (spoiler: you won’t struggle!).
There’s also a handful of artists selling actual paintings (watercolor, oil, etc.). Truthfully even if you don’t want any artwork for yourself, the talent alone warrants a visit, especially on a sunny day.

Split a crepe
One of the best things to do in Paris with kids is to get your daily dose of sugar by indulging in something sweet. Luckily, Paris is no slouch when it comes to desserts.
There are bakeries, chocolateries and ice cream shops sprinkled all across the French capital but I’ve noticed one treat stands head and shoulders above the rest: crepes.
Kids don’t care that the croissant from one bakery is flakier than the other or that the chocolate shop you’re in has been in business for over 100 years. They just want a sugar rush and they want it fast!
Turns out crepes are just what the doctor ordered. Warm, oozy Nutella to a kid is what Bordeaux is to my dear aunt Martha. That’s why one of the best things to do in Paris with kids is to partake in a little bit of high-calorie therapy and treat yourself to an inexpensive crepe.
Any shop will do, there’s crepe stands all across the city. My only tip is to bring some cash (euros) since most creperies are inexpensive and dealing in small bills is easier than breaking out the card reader.
Rent bikes
What kid doesn’t love riding a bike? I can’t think of a single one, and renting bikes and exploring the city on two wheels is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids (that are old enough, of course). It can be a little nerve-wracking pedaling alongside traffic but once you get in the swing of things you’ll be smooth-sailing.
Just to make clear, this is one of the best things to do with kids in Paris if your children are older. I’ve yet to see any training wheels cruise down the Champs-Elysee, and safety can be a concern if they’re not able to keep-up.
Paris is home to so many beautiful public spaces and parks with paths for bikes, so it can be less intimidating. You can also bike along the Seine if the road-traffic is too daunting.
Get hot chocolate at Angelina Paris
Parisians are known to be exceptional in anything they sets their minds to. From Olympic athletes to baking the freshest baguettes, when Paris has perfected something, we don’t dare mess with it.
Therefore trust me when I tell you, the hot chocolate is no different.
But not every cup of hot chocolate is created equal, and Angelina Paris is a testament to that. With an intense and rich flavor, enjoying a cup of hot chocolate from here is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids.
The best way to describe the velvety goodness is to imagine an entire bar of chocolate melted into a cup. I hate to be the one to break it to you but the sugar-rush is 100% worth it!
Angelina Paris has been around since 1903, and the posh atmosphere creates a memorable experience.
The hot chocolate is served in a cute little teapot with a side of whipped cream, in an effort to dilute the richness. Dressing up in a cute outfit and having a tea party is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids.

Disneyland Paris
I feel like this needs no explanation if you’re looking for things to do in Paris with kids.
Although some folks consider Disneyland Paris the “worst” Disney in the world, let’s get real — it’s still Disney.
There is no world were kids aren’t jumping up and down at the thought of spending the day in the happiest place on earth.
Located less than an hour from the city, one of the easiest things to do with kids in Paris is to run wild at Disney. If you’re just looking to spend the day there, tickets will run a little less than €100 a person (depending on the day). It’s one of the best day trips from Paris, especially with kids.
As far as getting there goes, public transportation is your best option. You’ll take the Metro 9 down to Nation and then transfer to the RER (Réseau Express Régional, a commuter train) and follow signs for the A train. You’ll exit at Marne-la-Vallée Chessy and from there it will be a short walk away.
Unleash your inner child at Foire du Trône

If Disney Paris is out of the picture but you still want to experience the thrill of an amusement park, might I suggest Foire du Trône. After a small haitus (thanks covid!) the French fair is back and better than ever.
With over 300 attractions and 80 rides it’s no wonder why Foire du Trône has made our list of best things to do in Paris with kids. This is a great spring activity for the family and will keep you busy for an entire day.
Foire du Trône is an opportunity for you to let your hair down and unleash your inner child. The best part? You can get there by metro. The 8 line gets you there, you just hop off at the Créteil – Pointe du Lac stop.
The loud, vibrant park will have you reminiscing in no time and the nostalgia hits hard since this fair offers all the classics.
Take a spin on the Ferris wheel, throw your hands up on the roller-coaster and feel your stomach drop on all the twisting rides. This is especially a one of the best things to do in Paris with kids during the spring.

Enjoy Jardin d’Acclimatation year-round
One of the best things to do in Paris with kids is to set your sights on Jardin d’Acclimatation. The year-round amusement park is a smaller, more local, less expensive version of Disney (at least that’s what we tell the kids).
There are 42 attractions, never-ending workshops and live-animals all waiting to provide entertainment.
If you have littles who are super into birds then this is one of the best places in Paris to bring them! The Jardin d’acclimatation houses over 450 birds from all over the world!
Tickets will run you anywhere from 27-50€ (depending on when you visit). The park even offers a 7€ ticket for those who just need entry and don’t plan on utilizing the attractions — ha! take that Disney.
To put into perspective just how conveniently located the park is, it’s a 15 minute metro ride from Arc de Triomphe. Or a short 30 minute walk if you want a more scenic route. There’s no reason to miss out on one of the best things to do in Paris with kids thanks to the central location.

Take a macaron baking class
If you’re traveling to Paris with older kids who aren’t easily entertained with carousels and playgrounds, consider signing yourself up for a macaron baking class together.
Galeries Lafayette offers a great class that lasts around an hour and half, that will leave you feeling confident and impressed with yourself. The class is not suggested for kids under 12 since it can prove to be a bit difficult to follow.
During the course you’ll be learning directly from an experienced French pastry chef. The best part is you’ll get to taste your own baking on the spot and they send you home with some macarons plus the recipe you just learned.
It’s a shared experience and the class can be anywhere from 4 to 18 people. Everything will be provided for you so you get to just show up and partake in one of the best things to do in Paris with kids.
Something to note: You’ll find a lot of baking classes out there. Speaking from firsthand experience not only was the class at Galeries Lafayette one of the best things to do in Paris with kids, it was one of the most affordable too.

Climb Arc de Triomphe
Seeing the city from above is not only one of the best things to do in Paris with kids, but a bucket list item for most! Is it touristy? Absolutely, but well worth it.
In order to get to the top of Arc de Triomphe, you’ll need to climb a steep set of stairs (284 steps… I know, I’m sorry). The stairs will eventually lead to the top, where you get some of the most breathtaking views of the city.
I know it may seem like a lot of work, especially with kids, but it’s manageable and the views are well worth it.
Since this is one of the most popular things to do in Paris with kids, tickets sell fast. Plan ahead and book tickets here (current cost is 13€ per person). There’s a little museum at the top that’s also worth perusing for a while.
Word to the wise: It’s best to know the history of this important landmark before visiting Paris. It makes you an informed and respectful tourist, who doesn’t love that?
Why is the Arc de Triomphe important?
inaugurated in 1836, the Arc de Triomphe honors soldiers that died fighting for France’s freedom during the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. Observe the walls on the arc and you’ll see the names of generals and notable French victories during those times.
As you leave the Arc de Triomphe, you’ll notice a moving tribute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.

Explore Jardin des Plantes
Jardin des Plantes (which translates to Garden of Plants) is made up of 11 unique smaller gardens all coming together to form one of the best places to visit when visiting Paris with kids.
One of the biggest attractions is the fact that the garden is home to Europe’s oldest zoo. There are more than 600 animals that call the zoo home making this one of the best things to do in Paris with family.
I will say that tickets to the zoo will need to be bought a few days in advance. It’s one of the most popular things to do in Paris with kids so don’t dissapoint your littles by making them see the squirrels instead of the red-pandas.
Additionally, the Jardin des Plantes is home to a wonderful natural history museum with a sizable collection of artifacts (which we’ll touch on next). For youngsters especially, the whole garden is incredibly astounding!
Explore the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle
Speaking of that wonderful natural museum in the Jardin des Plantes, make sure to swing by Museum d’Histoire Naturelle. Nicknamed “The Louvre of Natural Science” the museum is is both large and impressive.
Initially founded in 1635 as the royal garden of Medicinal Plants, the museum was formally launched in 1793 during the French Revolution.
Along with a ton of amazing animal skeletons and life-size replicas, a great picnicking area nearby, and a few unique critters that kids normally adore, you’ll find limitless entertainment for both kids and adults.
There are five galleries that make up the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle:

Or Cité des Sciences
Similar to the Museum d’Histoire Naturelle, Cité des Sciences is another great spot to add to your list of things to do in Paris with kids. As the name suggests this is a can’t miss for those littles who love science.
Located in the Parc de la Villette, this is the largest science museum in all of Europe. With both rotating exhibits and permanent ones, this is something you can look forward to no matter how many times you’ve visited Paris.
Offering a plethora of exhibitions, activities and shows, there will be a lot of ground to cover. My suggestion is to hop on their website and check out the calendar to see what fun events are happening while you’re visiting Paris with kids.

If all else fails, swing by Museum of Chocolate
Can’t convince your kid to look at extinct animals or really cool science stuff? Don’t sweat it — food seems to always work!
Luckily, one of the best things to do in Paris with kids is to check out the Museum of Chocolate: Choco-Story (yes, it’s a real thing). There are two experiences you can choose from when visiting Choco-Story.
The first is the classic ticket. This ticket gives you access to the museum where you’ll learn all about the history of chocolate along with the ability to meet the chocolatiers, and sample more than ten different kinds of chocolate.
Where the second ticket will give you all the same access plus you’ll get to partake in the chocolate workshop. Essentially your kiddo will spend 45 minutes working with a chocolatier creating their own candy bar with the techniques they learned.
Not only is creating your own chocolate bar one of the best things to do in Paris with kids, it doubles as a great souvenir. Along with the memory of the workshop I can’t think of a better experience!

Boat ride on the Seine
The nice thing about visiting Paris with children is that the city is equipped for families to explore. In fact, one of the best things to do in Paris with kids is to take a boat ride down the River Seine.
And not just any boat ride, this river cruise offers a family-friendly guided tour that takes the hard work out for you.
You’ll get to explore Paris from a different vantage point and pawn off any questions your curious littles may have to the tour guide. 😉
Or if you want to take it up a notch, this cruise offers epic views, an audio guide and a sweet treat. With the purchase of a ticket you’ll have the option of a waffle, ice cream or a soft drink with will make your kids love Paris.
Go rock climbing in a former church at Climbing District
Rock climbing has seen a boom in popularity in recent years, even seeing an introduction to the Olympics in 2020. The popularity has seeped into France, so one of the best things to do in Paris with kids is to stop by the Climbing District, an indoor rock climbing gym.
The gym was founded in 2021 and is in the 17th arrondissement, but I’m not here to suggest their original location (which is amazing). Instead one of the most unique things to do in Paris with kids is to visit their new location the 7th arrondissement. Why? It’s in a former church.
Indeed, your kids can work their way up the rock wall passing arches and stained glass windows on the way. The church, built in 1800’s, is one of the most unique locations for a sport but hey, if it works it works.
There are open climbs and classes as well. If you have a child with a little too much energy, putting them into climbing lessons could be one of the best things to do in Paris. For prices and schedules visit the Climbing District website.

Peruse the Musee de la Magie
Visiting the Musee de la Magie (Museum of Magic) is one of the most unique things to do in Paris with kids. It’s even a non-negotiable for those who are children at heart.
To access the museum you’ll have to head downstairs into the basement of a building in Le Marais. The creepy staircase begins your journey into one of the best things to do in Paris with kids.
For a small fee you get to walk around the museum and see magic’s tools of the trade. There are optical illusions and wind up toys among other things.
It’s on the smaller side but that just means you can get in and out quickly, continuing with more fun things to do in Paris with kids. Just keep an eye on the website since the museum is known to change their hours and isn’t open on a consistent schedule.

Tour the Parc Zoologique de Paris
One of the best things to do in Paris with kids is visit the more than 3,000 animals at the Parc Zoologique de Paris (Paris Zoological Park).
You can spend as much or as little time here as you’d like, the zoo is in the Bois de Vincennes, the largest park in Paris. It was founded in 1934 to compliment the zoo in the Jardin des Plantes.
Thanks to its size it’s able to showcase animals in a more “natural” setting. Observing lions, lemurs and lynx is one of the best things to do in Paris with kids, most littles can’t help but be inspired.
Tickets need to be bought online in advance, but while you’re on the website check to see if there’s any events. They’ll sometimes will host activities, fairs and even sometimes open the zoo at night.

Visit the Palace of Versailles
A lot of dear friends have asked me whether taking a day trip from Paris to Versailles is worth it. My answer is always a resounding yes! It’s one of the best things to do in Paris with kids, especially those old enough to understand the history.
It’s a mere 30 minute train ride from downtown and you’ll enjoy a whole day’s worth of entertainment.
The Palace of Versailles is the main attraction, it used to be the official royal residence of the top dogs until the French Revolution in 1789. Today the palace is open to the public — and damn — it’s a joy to explore.
The Hall of Mirrors (unreal) is an eye-popping display of opulence and grandeur, it’s hard not to feel small in it. And Marie Antoinette’s gardens are a must-visit, you’ll get to relax like royalty – literally.
You can dedicate a half-day to it so it doesn’t take up too much of your precious time in the City of Light. But if you have time, there’s enough to explore for a full day and it’s one of the best things to do in Paris with kids!
Helpful Note: If you’re going to add the Palace of Versailles to your Paris itinerary (as you should!), make sure to book tickets well in advance.
